遅れて申し上げますが、あけましておめでとうございます。
I am proud to announce that the NAE project has received the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts!
年明け間も無く、カナダ・カウンシルの助成金授与の結果発表があり、なんと、「なえ」プロジェクトは合格という結果であった。
Project Nae has been largely on hold pending this crucial result – though it was always slated to proceed – it will now receive a magnificent boost. Along with the support of the Toronto Arts Council and the Ontario Arts Council, project Nae will make use of a studio space to compose and rehearse new material. With the added support of the Canada Council, I will be returning to Japan in the spring to work with talented musicians and cultural leaders to learn and study new concepts that I hope to incorporate in new work.
トロント市内でお稽古場を借りるための大費用を抱えるこのプロジェクトは、すでに幸い、オンタリオ州、トロント市、両カウンシルからもご支援の提供をいただいていたが、プロジェクトの大一歩であるお稽古場の設置には、総予算の見込みが事業開始前に欲しくて、今年の二月の結果発表までにプロジェクトを一時的に休止させていた。嬉しきことに、カナダ・カウンシルの寛大なご支援も加わりまして、これからはお稽古場の設置をはじめ、希望した通り、日本での研修の予定も含め、プロジェクトは順調に離陸する見込みである。
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Canada Council for the Arts for its generous support. I had to deny myself the right to hope that my application might succeed, and spent the winter preparing plans to go forward with the support of grant awards from the Ontario and Toronto councils. While I was prepared and committed to see this ‘plan B’ through – I worried about the prohibitive costs of space in Toronto and what unforeseen compromises were likely to be required. But, with great relief and humility – I was fortunate to discover that this additional funding will be provided. This truly is a humbling endorsement and gives me great capacity to see this project through. I shall now endeavor to earn the accolades I have received through my work and I look forward to sharing that journey with one and all.
ここで一言、カナダ・カウンシルの欠かせられないご支援に対して心からのお礼を申し上げたいと思う。申請書を届けてから、結果が出るまでの冬の間、合格しないだろうという「PLAN B」の想定で心の準備をして、それまでに嬉しくいただいていた予算だけでどう進むか作戦を立てていたが、さすがに限られた予算でトロントという賃貸物件の高いところでの作戦で、心配しないではいられなかった。理想の作戦に色々と妥協を見込んでいたが、幸い、こうした結果になったことに大きな追い風をいただいている。同時に大変謙虚な気持ちである。これらの光栄なるご支援を背後にみなさまのご期待に応えるほどの作品を仕上げるよう、全力尽くしてみたいと思う。
I would also like to acknowledge the staff and panel judges of the Canada Council for the Arts, The Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Councils – for seeing it fit to recommend my submissions for these prestigious endorsements.
そして、それぞれのカウンシル（カナダ・カウンシル、オンタリオ芸能カウンシル、トロント芸能カウンシル）の審査員パネルを務めた方々に、私のプロジェクト提案をたくさんの候補の中から貴重なご支援を授与するに足ることと判じてくださったこと、謹んでお礼を申し上げたい。
Work and planning is rapidly beginning with preparations to study in Japan, and while it promises to be a whirlwind spring – I am super excited to get started!
すでにスタジオ探しが本格的に始まっており、ますます日本での研修の予定も具体化している。冬の一時的な休止状態に比べれば、急に忙しくなって参ったが、夢にも思えなかったような嬉しい状況で「なえ」プロジェクトの実現に取り掛かれることに、ワクワクしてやまない。
