In February, I will have the unique privilege of returning to my old Japanese School to teach students about Japanese music as part of the school’s annual culture day event.
I attended Toronto Japanese Language School for well over a decade as a child and teenager and I am indebted to the school for my success in life today.
I should take a moment to honor Mrs. Tanaka, the principal of the school during the years that I attended, who passed away this winter. I was not able to attend her funeral though I am deeply grateful to her for years of enthusiastically supporting my education. I do recall that she waited patiently amongst a large crowd that had gathered after a performance I had taken part in only a few years ago to offer me her congratulations.
May she rest in peace… I will do my best at the workshop!
