In 2014 after some travel in Japan, I rejoined forces with the Komachi Montreal dance troop to perform at the International Percussion Festival in Longueil Quebec. It was a massive assembly of Taiko groups and professionals from across Canada and the U.S. and such a rare opportunity to see all these groups perform live. Nerves naturally run high when you’re performing amongst your peers and it was no less tense for Komachi Montreal and myself, as we took to our evening performance on the main stage. Komachi’s segment was unique amongst the excellent performances of Wadaiko, as it consisted of a variety of transitions from dance to drumming and music of a more melodic fashion. We expect that the audience enjoyed this added dimension as much as the ensemble did performing for them. Thanks again Komachi Montreal for another great experience.
